What is Scandinavian Style Christmas Decor?
Think of Scandinavian Christmas decor as the epitome of simplicity and elegance. It uses natural colors like green and brown for trees and white to mimic snow. The Scandinavian Christmas style offers a minimalist charm, which is something I personally prefer.
Standard Christmas decorations can be a little over the top so if you’re looking for something more down to Earth then this guide to creating Scandi-inspired DIY Christmas wreaths might be what you’re looking for.
How to Make a Scandinavian Christmas Wreath
What You’ll Need
Reel wire (or twine)
Foliage (Conifer and pine work great for a simple look)
Bells (if you want to add a bit of festive jingle)
A hoop (Click here to read my tutorial on how to make your own willow hoops from scratch.)
Step-by-Step Wreath-Making Instructions
Secure the Wire/Twine: Start by attaching the end of your wire or twine to the hoop. Wrap it around and twist it to make sure it's nice and snug.
Layer on the Foliage: Snip off pieces of foliage and place them on the hoop. Wrap the wire around the stems of the foliage two or three times, keeping it tight.
Layer Extra Foliage Bundles on top to cover up the wire from the previous ones.
Keep Adding Layers: Keep going with the foliage bundles, hiding the wire each time. Build it up until you have covered the whole hoop.
Make it Uniform: Lift the first bundles and tuck in some extra foliage to keep a consistent appearance throughout.
Hang the Bells: String the bells onto the twine and pop them onto the hoop. It adds a nice little touch to your creation!
Summary
Creating these wreaths is all about taking the time to layer the foliage properly. The idea of simplicity and minimalism really shines through with these wreaths.
And the best part? Despite looking grand, these wreaths took less than an hour to create.
